My Predictions
Toni Collette "The United States of Tara"
Edie Falco "Nurse Jackie"
Tina Fey "30 Rock"
Laura Linney "The Big C"
Lea Michele "Glee"
Amy Poehler "Parks & Recreation"
Other Contenders - Martha Plimpton "Raising Hope", Patricia Heaton "The Middle", Melissa McCarthy "Mike & Molly", Mary-Louise Parker "Weeds", Courtney Cox "Cougar Town", Kaley Cuoco "The Big Bang Theory", Felicity Huffman "Desperate Housewives", Eva Longoria "Desperate Housewives", Marcia Cross "Desperate Housewives", Teri Hatcher "Desperate Housewives", Sarah Chalke "Mad Love".
Commentary - This really is a seven horse race with only six slots. A ton of former winners will populate the nomination list, although the track record for more than one win in the last decade has not been good in this category. That being said, Tina Fey, Edie Falco, and Toni Collette, will most likely see their names called again. As should Amy Poehler, whose episode submission might be a winning formula. However, Laura Linney is most likely the frontrunner with her emotional range in The Big C's Pilot episode. The last spot, however is puzzling me. Martha Plimpton is arguably a supporting character, where as Lea Michele is more of a lead. However Plimpton is funnier, but Michele more emotional. Glee is a shoo-in for a Comedy Series nod, Raising Hope is only a possibility. This means that it is really six to one whether Plimpton or Michele gets in. I am going with Lea, because she was nominated last year and her show is more popular, but it is a shaky prediction.
Will Be Nominated:
ReplyDeleteEdie Falco
Laura Linney
Tina Fey
Amy Poehler
Lea Michele
Martha Plimpton
Should Be Nominated:
Tina Fey
Amy Poehler
Melissa McCarthy
Martha Pimpton
Laura Linney
Courtney Cox
Will Win: Linney/Poehler
Should Win: Poehler
You know, a lot of people are taking Toni Collette off of their nomination predictions as you did. I wonder if there is something to that. Maybe I am just playing it safe picking a former winner, but I agree that she is not safe at all. In terms of Poehler, everyone is betting on Linney, but Poehler's episode is hilarious, and may give her the Emmy.
ReplyDeleteI just think there is too much competition among the Showtime women for three of them to get in. Last year when Edie Falco was the new contender, Mary Louise Parker was knocked off the nominations.
ReplyDeleteI think Poehler is absolutely a contender for the win. Especially if Collette makes the list and there is vote-splitting between the premium cable ladies. I would love nothing more than to see Amy take it all the way!
