My Predictions
Taraji P. Henson "Taken From Me: The Tiffany Rubin Story"
Diane Lane "Cinema Verite"
Jean Marsh "Upstairs, Downstairs"
Elizabeth McGovern "Downtown Abbey"
Kate Winslet "Mildred Pierce"
Other Contenders - Hayley Atwell "Pillars of the Earth", Kim Raver "Bond of Silence", Jennifer Love Hewitt "The Client List", Katie Holmes "The Kennedys", Chyler Leigh "The 19th Wife", Kate Fleetwood "Macbeth"
Commentary - In my opinion, there are only six contenders for only five slots, although if the voting is close, a sixth nominee could appear solving all my troubles. But since that is unlikely, I have narrowed it down to five. Diane Lane was great in Cinema Verite, and has Oscar nominee status to back that up. Two British productions seek to offer their best, and both Jean Marsh and Elizabeth McGovern should reap the benefits of their top-notch programs. But really, in the end, I think it all comes down to Kate Winslet. Her miniseries got great reviews, and looks to get a ton of nominations. Most importantly, she is Kate Winslet, and this would be a wonderful opportunity for the Academy to honor one of the best actresses working today. That still leaves one slot though. It is between Hayley Atwell and Taraji P. Henson. While a lot of pundits are going for Atwell, her period pierce series, and her unknown status may hurt her, and allow Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson to get in instead.
