2014 Emmy Predictions: Best Writing in a Drama Series

Will Win - Moira Walley-Beckett "Breaking Bad - Ozymandias"

Should Win - Moira Walley-Beckett "Breaking Bad - Ozymandias"

Could Win - Vince Gilligan "Breaking Bad - Felina" or Nic Pizzolatto "True Detective - The Secret Fate of All Life"

Commentary - I think that whatever happens here that Breaking Bad will walk away with an Emmy for writing. The only other show I think has a shot here is True Detective for its complex dramatic themes. But I think this is going to be the Breaking Bad show. Most people agree that Ozymandias will go down as not only one of the best Breaking Bad episodes of all time, but one of the greatest television episodes of all time. It was pure brilliance, and its buzz and reception make it look like a slam-dunk. But the other episode Felina is nothing to snort at. It is another finally crafted masterpiece. And it has something going for it that could end up with a win. That is, of course, that it is written by series creator Vince Gilligan. If they are picking between the two, and they want to reward Gilligan the person, then Felina could easily topple the more obvious choice of Ozymandias.
