2014 Emmy Predictions: Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series

Will Win - Joe Morton "Scandal"

Should Win - Joe Morton "Scandal"

Could Win - Robert Morse "Mad Men", Reg E. Cathey "House of Cards", or Beau Bridges "Masters of Sex"

Commentary - This is another interesting race with some real power here. First, let's start with Robert Morse. No actor has ever won an Emmy for Mad Men, but in his character's final episode this season, he has a real shot to finally break that dreaded curse. He gets to emote and show off his Broadway skills. But it is a small part, and once again, none of these guys have ever won. Beau Bridges has a great arc on Masters of Sex, but I think its one of those unfortunate performances that is great in the long run of the season, but doesn't have a particular episode to shine with. So for me it really comes down to two guys, neither of which I predicted would even be nominated. First is Reg E. Cathey a great character veteran who is finally getting some due. He has a great story line this season, and it is really hard to not put him in first. But I think that there is heat behind Joe Morton. He has a great arch as well, and has more explosive scenes, more scenery-chewing than Cathey, so in a very close battle I will go for the bigger and bolder performance over the quieter, yet just as effective one.
