2014 Emmy Predictions: Best Guest Actor in a Comedy Series

Will Win - Jimmy Fallon "Saturday Night Live"

Should Win - Steve Buscemi "Portlandia"

Could Win - Steve Buscemi "Portlandia", Nathan Lane "Modern Family", or Bob Newhart "The Big Bang Theory"

Commentary - Can we all just agree upfront that this is kind of a flat year for this category? I am currently predicting Jimmy Fallon because he was, as always, great on SNL. Although I do feel like it wasn't as great this time around. Bob Newhart could win another, now that they finally realize how good it feels to reward this legend. But once again, his stint on The Big Bang Theory this year didn't have quite the same impact (I really wish James Earl Jones had made it in here for his magnetic performance this year on the same show). Nathan Lane finally had enough to do in Modern Family, but he still might not have quite enough to actually pull it off. The one that I was surprised to see nominated, then surprised to see how good he was was Steve Buscemi. Portlandia is a strange show, but the Emmy voters clearly like it well enough to give it several nominations, and Buscemi is hilarious. But in the battle of sketch show performances I think the favorite Fallon wins again.
