2013 Emmy Predictions - Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series

Will Win - Kristen Wiig "Saturday Night Live"

Could Win - Melissa McCarthy "Saturday Night Live", Elaine Stritch "30 Rock", or Melissa Leo "Louie"

Should Win - Melissa McCarthy "Saturday Night Live"

Commentary - This category has so many potential winners that it is hard to really guess where they are going to go with this one at the upcoming Creative Arts awards. Plus, these categories have always thrown pundits curveballs, just look at last year's winners for proof. Elaine Stritch is an Emmy winning legend and has won for her recurring role on 30 Rock. They may, and easily could, give her one last gold statue for a beloved performance on a beloved show. Melissa Leo is an Oscar-winning film star, who has also been nominated for a Primetime and Daytime Emmy in the past. Her role on Louie is baity, and is in a top-notch episode, so she could easily take the prize. My personal pick would be Melissa McCarthy who was easily one of the best hosts of SNL the last two seasons, bringing so much energy and humor to her skits. But I think that this is the year that Kristin Wiig finally wins her elusive Emmy Award. I was initially disappointed by the episode, but upon a second viewing, she herself is incredibly funny (the writing, as always these days, fails her in some spots), and she does get to prove why she was so popular, and such a regular Emmy nominee, when she was a regular cast member. This time around, being the host, she gets a lot more screentime than normal, and gets to show off her range (as most hosts of SNL do). SNL hosts have done well since their move to the Guest spots, and I think this trend will pay of, finally, for Wiig.
