Eddie Murphy - Out as Oscar Host
Well, I know that Brett Ratner brought in Eddie Murphy, but I thought that maybe he would stick around despite all the controversy. But Murphy for some God knows what reason has stayed loyal to his buddy Ratner, and without him producing, Murphy decided to quit as well. Here's to hoping that means Billy Crystal gets a call. On a more broad note, this has truly been an embarrassing experience for the Academy. Murphy as hot wasn't a bad idea, he's a great stand-up comedian and a veteran (after last year's amateur outing), but they should have known that someone as brazen and outspoken as Ratner was going to cause trouble, and that trying to reach out the masses with a populist choice doesn't always work. I hope that a new production team can bring some class and grace back to the ceremony.
