The Oscar Narrative: Pre-Guild Nomination Predictions - Best Actress

Pre-Guild Nomination Predictions
Frances McDormand "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri"
Sally Hawkins "The Shape of Water"
Margot Robbie "I, Tonya"
Saoirse Ronan "Lady Bird"
Meryl Streep "The Post"

Other Contenders - Judi Dench "Victoria and Abdul", Jessica Chastain "Molly's Game", Michelle Williams "All the Money in the World", Gal Gadot "Wonder Woman", Emma Stone "Battle of the Sexes"

Commentary - The Post not getting screened enough for SAG hurt it worse than it may think. Meryl Streep always gets nominated, and is the best she has been in years in The Post. The problem is that Judi Dench took that slot, with a Golden Globe nomination as well. With her popularity in her homeland, a BAFTA nod is not out of the question. I don't think Streep is in trouble, she always has a slot, but it makes me think that one of the other four, who otherwise feel safe, might need to watch out for Dench. They also need to watch out for Michelle Williams, as she has become a perennial and beloved nominee among these voters. Right now though, those aforementioned four are safe. Saoirse Ronan and Frances McDormand feel like the top two battling it out right now, with no clear front runner and Sally Hawkins hot on their heels. I also think Margot Robbie will gain her first nomination for her delightfully evil role as Tonya Harding. She is a talented actor that has been flirting with this kind of recognition for several years now, and finally has the right role.
