Commentary - Is it possible that three series from last year don't get back in? It is kind of gamble to think so, and yet if you look across the prediction-sphere, most people are going out on this limb. I am too, but don't be surprised if House of Cards, Homeland, or Mr. Robot get back in. I think The Americans and Better Call Saul return. With Downton and Game of Thrones gone there are at least two slots. The Crown and This is Us are probably the strongest of the new shows, so even if those old favorites return, expect those two to make it in. I also think that The Handmaid's Tale gets in, with its great reviews and buzz at just the right moment. Finally, Stranger Things made a huge splash on the guild circuit earlier this year, so I think it makes the cut. But, to all the fans out there. Science fiction is still a tough sell to these voters, so Stranger Things is vulnerable. For the last slot, I was going to put in Westworld. But the buzz has died. I think HBO is going to take a slot, because they always do. Instead of Westworld, I am picking The Leftovers. It has had stunning reviews, and while it is ending, has clearly hit its peak at the right time. This will be an interesting race to watch. Also look out for The Good Fight, Orange is the New Black, American Gods, Bloodline, Empire, and the final season of Bates Motel.
