2017 Emmy Nomination Predictions: Best Actor in a Drama Series

2017 Nomination Predictions
Sterling K. Brown "This is Us"
Kyle Chandler "Bloodline"
Rami Malek "Mr. Robot"
Bob Odenkirk "Better Call Saul"
Matthew Rhys "The Americans"
Kevin Spacey "House of Cards"

Other Contenders - Liev Schreiber "Ray Donovan", Anthony Hopkins "Westworld", Justin Theroux "The Leftovers", Milo Ventimiglia "This is Us", Billy Bob Thornton "Goliath", Ian McShane "American Gods", Ricky Whittle "American Gods", Paul Giamatti "Billions", Damien Lewis "Billions", Hugh Laurie "Chance", Rupert Friend "Homeland", Freddie Highmore "Bates Motel", Terrence Howard "Empire", Kiefer Sutherland "Designated Survivor", Aaron Paul "The Path", Aldis Hodge "Underground"

Commentary - This race feels like it has a lot less heat than its actress counterpart, which speaks volumes for the quality female roles now on television. I think that Liev Schreiber finally drops out, but I have doubted him before. Beyond that I think that Malek, Odenkirk, Rhys, and Spacey return. I also think that Kyle Chandler comes back one more time, because they clearly love him. But somebody has got to leave to make room for recent Emmy winner Sterling K. Brown, and I am banking on Schreiber over Chandler leaving the race. I would also watch for Justin Theroux (I think The Leftovers could surprise across the board), Anthony Hopkins (if they like Westworld a lot), Golden Globe winner Billy Bob Thornton, and Milo Ventimiglia to ride a This is Us wave. American Gods has two guys in the mix, but watch for Ian McShane to be the breakthrough. Billions has two previous Emmy winners, and previous nominees and winners like Kiefer Sutherland, Rupert Friend, Hugh Laurie, and Aaron Paul should not be discounted.
