2017 Emmy Nomination Predictions: Best Actress in a Drama Series

2017 Nomination Predictions
Claire Danes "Homeland"
Viola Davis "How to Get Away with Murder"
Claire Foy "The Crown"
Elisabeth Moss "The Handmaid's Tale"
Keri Russell "The Americans"
Robin Wright "House of Cards"

Other Contenders - Evan Rachel Wood "Westworld", Christine Baranski "The Good Fight", Carrie Coon "The Leftovers", Mandy Moore "This is Us", Taraji P. Henson "Empire", Kerry Washington "Scandal", Katherine Langford "13 Reasons Why", Taylor Schilling "Orange is the New Black", Lizzy Caplan "Masters of Sex", Ruth Wilson "The Affair", Ruth Negga "Preacher"

Commentary - I don't think this race will see as much turnover as we all thought. Tatiana Maslany is not eligible, and the buzz for Empire is fading, which means that Taraji P. Henson is probably out, although she is not one I would discount. I think that Elisabeth Moss gets in for The Handmaid's Tale, which is getting tremendous buzz, and Claire Foy rides a Crown wave. That means that Danes gets back in (although it is time to move on), as does Russell, Wright (she is vulnerable), and Davis (who benefits from a recent Oscar win). Evan Rachel Wood could get in if HBO can push Oscar voters on Westworld, same with Carrie Coon. Christine Baranski is a favorite, Mandy Moore is the biggest show of the yaer, Katherine Langford is buzzy, and Kerry Washington, Taylor Schilling, and Lizzy Caplan have all gotten love before. Finally, don't discount Ruth Negga. That Oscar nomination is the sort of thing that Emmy voters eat up.
