Commentary: This wasn’t a deep year for movies, which is probably why LOTR was able to clean up as much as it did. Without much depth, it would have been difficult to make a decent list of ten. I picked City of God, because of the Fernando Meirelles directing nod. I then went with the signature animated movie, Finding Nemo. Cold Mountain wasn’t that great, but it had pedigree, along the lines of The Reader. Pirates was the smash hit, and Johnny Depp was fantastic. Finally I went with the Sheridan movie, simply because it cleaned up better at the nominations than was expected.
