Commentary - A tough race that will hopefully start to shape up over the next couple of weeks with BAFTA longlists and SAG Nods. If anyone can become the first Marvel acting nomination it is the great Angela Bassett. She has done surprisingly well with the critical groups, and she is a legend. She as the story, the campaign, and the support. Let's hope it works. Kerry Condon has emerged as a real contender for The Banshees of Inisherin. She is a real contender, who feels like the eventual BAFTA winner. Women Talking is struggling so far, but Jessie Buckley, who is fresh off of her first nomination, is still strong amongst the amazing cast. Finally, I put both EEAAO actresses in. I feel like Stephanise Hsu is the best performance, and I feel like Jamie Lee Curtis is the best story, campaign, and career. Why not reward both? I hope Academy voters do. But this race is far from over. Dolly De Leon's Globe nod, if followed by SAG, should not be ignored. Carey Mulligan has stayed strong, despite She Said being less of a contender than thought, Claire Foy could join Buckley, and there is a lot of love for Janelle Monae and Nina Hoss. Gabrielle Union has her first potential Oscar role, and has a Indie Spirit nod under her belt, for The Inspection. Keke Palmer has gotten a nice boost from the critics, as has Hong Chau. Jean Smart is a legend, Kate Hudson and Thuso Mbedu are scene stealers, and Olivia DeJonge could ride the Elvis wave.
