Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series
Anthony Carrigan "Barry"
Carl Clemons-Hopkins "Hacks"
Paul W. Downs "Hacks"
Brett Goldstein "Ted Lasso"
Tony Shalhoub "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel"
Kenan Thompson "Saturday Night Live"
Henry Winkler "Barry"
Bowen Yang "Saturday Night Live"
Other Contenders - Nick Mohammed "Ted Lasso", Stephen Root "Barry", Brian Tyree Henry "Atlanta", Jeremy Swift "Ted Lasso", Brendan Hunt "Ted Lasso", David Hyde Pierce "Julia", Ben Schwartz "The Afterparty", Harvey Guillen "What We Do in the Shadows", LaKeith Stanfield "Atlanta", Luke Kirby "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel", Andre Braugher "Brooklyn Nine-Nine"
Commentary - This race is brutal, and could make or break your Emmy predictions. There are literally 14 previous nominees for these roles, and at least six or so other contenders to watch out. So 20 guys for 8 slots, and it could be a combination of any of those actors. I feel safe predicting the legends Tony Shalhoub and Henry Winkler, as well as last year's winner Brett Goldstein. Beyond that, it is anybody's game. SNL has continually done well in the acting categories, so I have both Thompson and Yang returning. I also have Anthony Carrigan returning as Barry did really well in this category in its last eligible season. In the last two slots, I am banking on Hacks doing really well, not only bringing back Carl Clemons-Hopkins, but also bringing in Paul W. Downs. I just expect this film to really grow in its second season in contention. But that leaves out the other three Ted Lasso guys, Brian Tyree Henry and LaKeith Stanfield, Luke Kirby, Andre Braugher, and some new contenders like David Hyde Pierce (a huge Emmy favorite), Harvey Guillen, and Ben Schwartz.
Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series
Alex Borstein "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel"
Hannah Einbinder "Hacks"
Sarah Goldberg "Barry"
Janelle James "Abbott Elementary"
Kate McKinnon "Saturday Night Live"
Cecily Strong "Saturday Night Live"
Juno Temple "Ted Lasso"
Hannah Waddingham "Ted Lasso"
Other Contenders - Meg Stalter "Hacks", Amy Ryan "Only Murders in the Building", Yvonne Orji "Insecure", Aidy Bryant "Saturday Night Live", Marin Hinkle "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel", Molly Shannon "The Other Two", Ariana DeBose "Schmigadoon!", Zazie Beetz "Atlanta"
Commentary - Another brutal category with WAY too many contenders. Alex Borstein, Hannah Einbinder, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, and Kate McKinnon are locked and loaded, and so is Sarah Goldberg probably, which leaves only two slots to play with in terms of predictions. I am going with the upstart Janelle James for Abbott Elementary, and with Cecily Strong, who has become a perennial in this category. But what about returning contenders like Zazie Beetz, Aidy Bryant, and Yvonne Orji? What about the scene-stealer Meg Stalter, or Oscar winner/nominee Ariana DeBose and Amy Ryan? What about the legendary Molly Shannon? The answer to these questions, is yes, they could easily take a slot.
