Commentary - A race that was surely to include Jesse Plemmons and Robert DeNiro for Killers of the Flower Moon, now suddenly has a huge void that needs to be filled. Right now I am not picking anyone from the casts of Thirteen Lives, Amsterdam, Glass Onion, Shirley, or Bones and All. A lot of big names, and lot of big question marks. If certain members of the cast rise to the top of the pile, they will be included along the way. Paul Dano has been so close to Oscar glory recently, and the Steven Spielberg biopic could finally be his ticket to Oscar gold. Anthony Hopkins has been on a streak lately, and returns in James Gray's latest with Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway. It has been too long since Don Cheadle's lone Oscar nod, and could return for Noah Baumbach's latest, White Noise. Women Talking could be one of the breakout hits of the Oscar season, and Ben Whishaw could be one of its benefactors. Finally, Glynn Turman did so well with Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, and could finally get some well overdue recognition for George C. Wolfe's follow-up Rustin. Beyond those five, a lot of folks are banking on Ke Huy Quan, but I need to see some precursors before I bank on Oscar voters embracing Everything Everywhere All At Once. Previous winners and nominees like Tom Hanks, Woody Harrelson, Tommy Lee Jones, Ralph Fiennes, Viggo Mortensen, Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe, Robert DeNiro, Rami Malek, Adrien Brody, Leslie Odom Jr., Edward Norton, Lucas Hedges, and Mark Rylance. Also be on the lookout for veterans and newcomers looking for their first nods like Colin Farrell, Joel Edgerton, Tobey Maguire, Zen McGrath, Michael Ward, Seth Rogen, Andre Holland, Andre Braugher, Andy Serkis, Brendan Gleeson, Barry Keoghan, John David Washington, Timothy Olyphant, and Chris Rock.
