Commentary - This race might end up being my favorite, with so many talent actresses competing for this. Right now, I am leaning heavily on past winners/nominees at the moment, knowing that newcomers often crash the party. Lady Gaga could earn her second Oscar nod for acting (she is a winner for song already) for House of Gucci's, whose first trailer was promising to say the least, and she is clearly the star of the movie. Jennifer Hudson as Aretha Franklin just has Oscar written all over it. Jennifer Lawrence could return for the star-studded new Adam McKay film. Margot Robbie has been hot with Oscar voters lately, and has a big role in the new David O'Russell film. Finally, just a year after winning her third Oscar, Frances McDormand sets out to tie Katherine Hepburn with The Tragedy of Macbeth. But this race has so much firepower. Jessica Chastain as Tammy Faye Baker is intriguing. Penelope Cruz plus Pedro Almodovar is always worth watching. Kirsten Dunst with Jane Campion could finally earn her an Oscar nod. Kristen Stewart as Diana might be her Oscar breakthrough. Newcomer Rachel Zegler could have a star-making turn in West Side Story. Nicole Kidman as Lucille Ball might be too much for Oscars to ignore. There are also plenty of previous nominees and winners hoping to return including Alicia Vikander, Halle Berry, Emma Stone, Marion Cotillard, Tilda Swinton, Melissa McCarthy, and Scarlett Johansson. A bunch of younger actresses are hoping to breakthrough including Taylour Paige, Haley Bennett, Odessa Young, Thomasin McKenzie, Rachel Sennot, Patti Harrison, Gemma Chan, Melissa Barrera, and Camila Cabello. Veterans like Tang Wei, Jodie Comer, Martha Plimpton, and the legendary Mary Twala are hoping for recognition. Finally, I know it won't happen, but can someone give Emily Blunt an Oscar nod for God's sake?
