Commentary - The only returning nominee from last year is The Kominsky Method, and without Schitt's Creek, which swept every major award, all the major Comedy categories will have different winners this year. Kominsky will come back, and I am predicting that both black-ish (which dropped out last year), and Master of None (which has taken a couple of years off), will return to the race. The other five slots will be filled in with new contenders. Ted Lasso, The Flight Attendant, and Hacks are the front runners. All three have big names, great casts, excellent reviews, and tons of buzz. PEN15 is an odd show (a good one, but odd) that in past years was relegated to writing, where shows like that often find love. But in this year with a lot of big contenders missing out due to production halts, this show can get some Emmy love. In the final slot, I am going with a personal favorite, Girls5Eva. It is from Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, who do well with Emmy voters. It is funny, warm, impeccably cast, and NBC has been pushing this series a lot to voters. But several of these contenders are vulnerable. Cobra Kai could do better than recent revival series. Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist could overcome its cancellation during voting. Mythic Quest has its fans, Made for Love has HBO behind it, Emily in Paris has Netflix pushing it, Dickinson has gained steam, and Love Victor is a sweet comedy that premiered its second season in the middle of voting. Finally, I would love to see the final seasons of Mom and Superstore get some outgoing Emmy love.
