2021 Emmy Nomination Predictions - Best Actor and Actress in a Comedy Series

Best Actor in a Comedy Series
Anthony Anderson "black-ish"
Michael Douglas "The Kominsky Method"
Ralph Macchio "Cobra Kai"
Jason Sudeikis "Ted Lasso"
Kenan Thompson "Kenan"

Other Contenders - William H. Macy "Shameless", Ted Danson "Mr. Mayor", Rob McElhenney "Mythic Quest", William Zabka "Cobra Kai", Alan Tudyk "Resident Alien"

Commentary - What a freakin crapshoot this category is shaping up to be. Anthony Anderson and Michael Douglas were both nominated last year, so I expect a return, and Jason Sudeikis will most likely easily win this Emmy for Ted Lasso. Beyond those three, I really don't know. I liked Kenan, and I like Kenan Thompson. But will they go for a traditional broadcast sitcom? Cobra Kai is popular, but can both guys get in? I am predicting Macchio because he's the bigger name, but do both get in? Do neither? There are some folks who could crash the party. William H. Macy would be an easy nominee in the past, but after the college controversy, I don't know if voters will be willing to reward him again. Ted Danson got in recently for The Good Place, and that love could spill over to Mr. Mayor. The show had a mixed reception, and was cancelled. Alan Tudyk and Rob McElhenney are long shots, but this is an odd year. This is an odd category in an odd year. So help us all.

Best Actress in a Comedy Series
Kaley Cuoco "The Flight Attendant"
Renee Elise Goldsberry "Girls5Eva"
Tracee Ellis Ross "black-ish"
Jean Smart "Hacks"
Lena Waithe "Master of None"

Other Contenders - Maya Erskie "PEN15", Anna Konkle "PEN15", Allison Janney "Mom", Jane Levy "Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist", Robin Thede "A Black Lady Sketch Show", Cristin Milioti "Made for Love", Sara Bareilles "Girls5Eva",

Commentary - The only two locks are Kaley Cuoco and Jean Smart, and the Emmy is between those two. The other three slots are up in the air. Tracee Ellis Ross is a recent favorite for black-ish, so I am predicting a return. I am hoping for Renee Elise Goldsberry, so I am willing it to happen. Lena Waithe is a recent Emmy winner, and if Master of None can get back in, I think they bring her along for the ride. Allison Janney is always one to watch for, the PEN15 girls could breakthrough, Jane Levy could defy the cancellation, Cristin Milioti could defy her show's lack of enthusiasm, and fingers are crosed for Robin Thede and Sara Bareilles, which would be inspired choices.
