2020 Emmy Nomination Predictions: Final Predictions - Best Drama Series and Best Comedy Series

Best Drama Series
Better Call Saul
The Crown
The Handmaid's Tale
The Morning Show
Ozark
Succession
This is Us
Westworld

Other Contenders - Big Little Lies, Pose, Stranger Things, Killing Eve, Euphoria, The Outsider, Homeland, The Mandalorian, The Good Fight

Commentary - I feel strong about predicting Ozark, Succession, Better Call Saul, and The Crown, as I would be jaw-dropped if those four didn't make it in. But the other four slots are a toss-up. The Handmaid's Tale did so well last year, despite the hanging episode rule, so I think its back in the race. The Morning Show has Apple TV pouring a lot of money into it, and the cast and subject matter are right up Emmy voters' alley. In the last two slots, I am going with This is Us, which is so beloved by the actors, and is one of the biggest shows on television. I am also picking Westworld. Despite a lackluster season, I think it will dominate the craft categories and take some of those Game of Thrones votes. But you have Big Little Lies' star power, Pose and Killing Eve, both nominees last year, Stranger Things, previous nominee, newcomers The Outsider, Euphoria, and The Mandalorian, past winner Homeland, and the criminally underrated The Good Fight.

Best Comedy Series
Better Things
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Dead to Me
The Good Place
Insecure
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Ramy
Schitt's Creek

Other Contenders - Modern Family, The Great, The Kominsky Method, Run, Space Force, What We Do in the Shadows, black-ish, Dave

Commentary - The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel vs. Schitt's Creek, a battle for the ages, this with Dead to Me and The Good Place lurking in the dark horse shadows. Beyond those four, this is anyone's game. I'm sure, unfortunately, that Curb Your Enthusiasm will return, it always seems to. In the last three slots, I am picking three underground favorites who I think will benefit from the absence of bigger contenders: Ramy, Better Things, and Insecure. But Modern Family and black-ish could get back in, The Kominsky Method, which missed last year, has a better shot this year, Run and Space Force could overcome bad reviews due to star power, and I could miss the mark, and voters pick other underground upstarts like Dave and What We Do in the Shadows, or the new hot item, The Great.

  2. I will predict the winners in the Creative Arts categories, but I've never attempted the nominees. Maybe next year?
