2020 Emmy Nomination Predictions: Final Predictions - Best Variety Talk and Sketch Series

Best Variety Talk Series
The Daily Show with Trevor Noah
Full Frontal with Samantha Bee
Last Week Tonight in John Oliver
Late Late Show with James Corden
Late Show with Stephen Colbert

Other Contenders - Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Late Night with Seth Myers, Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj, Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Conan, Real Time with Bill Maher

Commentary - This category does not turnover a lot, and this year there are only five nominees this year with the new sliding scale rules. I am thinking with the recent controversy with Jimmy Kimmel (Even though he is still hosting whatever version of the ceremony) that he is the weakest link of the bunch. I kind of hoped that this would be the year that Seth Myres or Hasan Minhaj would break through, but I am stupid to best against any of the five until one of them drops out.

Best Variety Sketch Series
At Home with Amy Sedaris
A Black Lady Sketch Show
Drunk History
Saturday Night Live

Other Contenders - Tiffany Haddish Presents: They Real, Sherman's Showcase, Whose Line is it Anyway?, Alternatino with Arturo Castro

Commentary - With a sliding scale of 0-4 nominations, this could be an early test at the sustainability of both this category, and this new system. I am going with four nominations, in the belief that voters will fill in the full category. SNL, Drunk History, and At Home with Amy Sedaris are all return nominees, but that's it. Everyone else is a new contender. I am backing HBO, in combination with everything going around us, and the urgency to include more diverse voices in the mix, and picking my personal favorite of the bunch, A Black Lady Sketch Show, which deserves to not only be in this category, but should win.
