2020 Emmy Nomination Predictions: Final Predictions - Best Supporting Actor and Actress in a Comedy Series

Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series
Mahershala Ali "Ramy"
Louie Anderson "Baskets"
Alan Arkin "The Kominsky Method"
Sterling K. Brown "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel"
James Marsden "Dead to Me"
Tony Shalhoub "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel"
Kenan Thompson "Saturday Night Live"

Other Contenders - Michael Zegan "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel", Nicholas Hoult "The Great", John Malkovich "Space Force", William Jackson Harper "The Good Place", Chris Elliott "Schitt's Creek", Noah Reid "Schitt's Creek", Leroy McClain "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel", Andre Braugher "Brooklyn Nine-Nine", Ty Burrell "Modern Family", Eric Stonestreet "Modern Family", Ed O'Neill "Modern Family", Jesse Tyler Ferguson "Modern Family"

Commentary - This race is not that deep this year without Veep and Barry populating so many slots. We know Shalhoub is back in, and will be the front runner yet again. I would also not bet against Alan Arkin returning. The other six slots are definitely up in the air. I wholly expect Sterling K. Brown to get in for his role in Maisel. He is just so popular. Louie Anderson and Kenan Thompson missed out last year, but I think will get back in with less previous nominees to contend with. Mahershala Ali is a two-time Oscar winner, and a previous Emmy nominee. Ramy is also getting a ton of buzz in multiple categories.Dan Levy should ride in on a Schitt's Creek wave, finally, for his awesome and hilarious role as David. Finally, I am picking James Marsden for his standout role in Dead to Me. But that leaves out Michael Zegan, who could get in on a Maisel sweep, Nicholas Hoult, John Malkovich (despite the show being bad), William Jackson Harper, Andre Braugher, the other two Schitt's Creek guys, Leroy McClain, and the four Modern Family guys for its final, and actually really good, season.

Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series
Alex Borstein "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel"
D'Arcy Carden "The Good Place"
Betty Gilpin "GLOW"
Emily Hampshire "Schitt's Creek"
Marin Hinkle "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel"
Jane Lynch "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel"
Kate McKinnon "Saturday Night Live"
Annie Murphy "Schitt's Creek"

Other Contenders - Yvonne Orji "Insecure", Rita Moreno "One Day at a Time", Gillian Anderson "Sex Education, Aidy Bryant "Saturday Night Live", Hiam Abbass "Ramy", Natasha Rothwell "Insecure", Lauren Graham "Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist", Jameela Jamil "The Good Place", Megan Mullally "Will & Grace", Lisa Kudrow "Space Force"

Commentary - Four actors are returning: Gilpin, McKinnon, Hinkle, and Borstein, but Gilpin is not solid as GLOW continues to fall off of the Emmy radar. I think Jane Lynch makes the jump to supporting easily. D'Arcy Carden was robbed last year, but I think he can get in this year. Finally, I am predicting both Schitt's Creek actresses, and in particular, I would not bet against Murphy upsetting as a winner. I really want to make a slot for Yvonne Orji, but I'm not sure who she replaces. I would also look out for Bryant, Anderson, Moreno, Abbass, Rothwell, Kudrow, Mulally, Jamil, and Graham.
