Should Win - Once On This Island
Commentary - Normally, this album goes to one of the big Tony winners for Musical or Revival of a Musical, this year that would be either The Band's Visit or Once On This Island. However, after it swept the Emmy awards, and earned some of its producers EGOT awards, I think that the mega-hit Jesus Christ Superstar Live will pull out the win here. However, many underestimated the popularity of the The Band's Visit when it pulled off three or four more wins that predicted at the Tonys, so win here would not be a surprise.
Best Comedy Album
Will Win - Dave Chappelle "Equanimity and The Bird Revelation"
Could Win - Patton Oswalt "Annihilation" or Chris Rock "Tamborine"
Should Win - Chappelle
Commentary - Three previous winners of this category, including the two most recent winners are all competing for another Grammy. Of the three I am going with Chappelle. He just won last year, so he is fresh on voters minds (plus these voters often get on a streak with artists they like). Also he just won another Emmy for Variety Special for Equanimity, so I think a Grammy will follow suit.
Best Spoken Word Album
Will Win - President Jimmy Carter "Faith: A Journey for All"
Could Win - Tiffany Haddish "The Last Black Unicorn" or Questlove "Creative Quest"
Commentary - This award tends to bounce back and forth between comedians reading their own audiobooks and politicians. So this makes me think this is a race between Tiffany Haddish, fresh off an Emmy win and former President Jimmy Carter. Carter has won twice, and has had a lot of nominations. I think he pulls off another win, but Haddish, or possibly Questlove, the only musician in the bunch, could upset.
