Golden Globe Television Predictions

Best Drama Series
Will Win - Killing Eve
Could Win - Homecoming or Bodyguard or Pose
Should Win - The Americans
Commentary - The Golden Globes love shiny new shows, as evidenced by four new shows in this race. In the end, I think this will come down to Killing Eve and Homecoming. Homecoming is the newest of the two, which might put it at the forefront of voters' minds. But I think that Killing Eve, which was a smashing critical hit will take the home the gold. On a personal note, if Killing Eve does not win, I hope that the one veteran in the bunch, The Americans, can get one final salute.

Best Comedy Series
Will Win - The Kominsky Method
Could Win - The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel or Barry
Should Win - The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Commentary - Despite the Emmy love and a vibrant second season, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel may fall victim to the Globes love of new stuff. It's been almost a decade since a comedy series won back to back, and there are three new series in the mix. Most folks would think Barry is the conventional upset pick, but word is that voters loved The Kominsky Method, especially its two legendary stars. Plus knowing Netflix, they have been pushing hard for this win. I think that The Kominsky Method will surprise a lot of folks and win.

Best Actor in a Drama Series
Will Win - Billy Porter "Pose"
Could Win - Richard Madden "Bodyguard" or Matthew Rhys "The Americans"
Should Win - Rhys or Porter
Commentary - This is a rough race to call. Rhys could do what he did at the Emmys: serve as a token win for the outgoing beloved favorite. Richard Madden and even Stephan James could benefit from the newcomer badge of honor. But I think Billy Porter is going to surprise. His role is fabulous, dramatic, and the type of role that wins Golden Globes. He is a stage veteran, and they clearly like Pose. This is the perfect place to reward the show.

Best Actress in a Drama Series
Will Win - Sandra Oh "Killing Eve"
Could Win - Julia Roberts "Homecoming" and Keri Russell "The Americans"
Should Win - Oh, Roberts, or Russell
Commentary - This is a fascinating race to watch, with the three leading the pack all being equally deserving for their roles. Russell, like Rhys, could be a sentimental vote for The Americans. Julia Roberts has had excellent year with two compelling roles in Homecoming and Ben is Back. Plus she is in a new show and is a genuine star. That combination is potent. But Sandra Oh is a Globe favorite, is hosting, and is in a hot new show as well. I think Globe voters want to avoid a potentially embarrassing moment.

Best Actor in a Comedy Series
Will Win - Michael Douglas "The Kominsky Method"
Could Win - Bill Hader "Barry"
Should Win - Hader or Donald Glover
Commentary - Bill Hader won the Emmy, and could repeat at the Globes. But if the rumors are true, voters love the Kominsky Method, and Michael Douglas is a legend at this point has amassed a lot of nominations and wins with the Globes including the Cecil B. DeMille honor. I think he adds another to his mantle.

Best Actress in a Comedy Series
Will Win - Rachel Brosnahan "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel"
Could Win - Kristen Bell "The Good Place"
Should Win - Brosnahan or Bell
Commentary - The Good Place is not necessarily a new show, but it is finally hitting its stride, which could help Kristen Bell win the Globe. Or, what I think will happen, is that Brosnahan will win again, as Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, while no longer a lock for Comedy Series, is still beloved by these voters, and can pull off two in a row.

Best Limited Series/TV Movie
Will Win - A Very English Scandal
Could Win - The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story or Sharp Objects
Should Win - Sharp Objects or A Very English Scandal
Commentary - Most folks are predicting Gianni Versace to continue its dominance. I personally think it has some excellent parts, but overall it pales in comparison to the two new entries A Very English Scandal and Sharp Objects. Amazon has been working hard to push A Very English Scandal, and we all know that campaigning definitely works with HFPA voters. I think it pulls an upset.

Best Actor in a Limited Series/TV Movie
Will Win - Hugh Grant "A Very English Scandal"
Could Win - Darren Criss "The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story"
Should Win - Grant
Commentary - Criss the bright new Star with an Emmy under his belt. But Globe voters love Hugh Grant, and his performance is top notch. I think he beats the newcomer.

Best Actress in a Limited Series/TV Movie
Will Win - Amy Adams "Sharp Objects"
Could Win - Patricia Arquette "Escape at Dannemora"
Should Win - Adams
Commentary - Amy Adams could win two Globes, as that supporting race on the film side is much in flux. But I think this one is safer for her. Sharp Objects is clearly well-liked among Globes voters, and I feel like they are going to make sure it is rewarded. This would be the perfect place, especially with a Globes favorite like Adams.

Best Supporting Actor
Will Win - Ben Whishaw "A Very English Scandal"
Could Win - Winkler or Arkin
Should Win - Whishaw
Commentary - Two legends, Alan Arkin and Henry Winkler could crash the party, but I think that the campaign for a Very English Scandal will help Whishaw, who was also in Paddington 2 and Mary Poppins Returns this year.

Best Supporting Actress
Will Win - Patricia Clarkson "Sharp Objects"
Could Win - Cruz or Borstein
Should Win - Thandie Newton
Commentary -  I am a bit concerned that I am not predicting Gianni Versace anywhere, and I'm wondering if Cruz is the show's win. But I think that the shocking performance of Patricia Clarkson will sway voters. Also watch out for Borstein, who could follow up her Emmy win with a Golden Globe.
