The Oscar Narrative: Final Oscar Predictions - Best Original Score, Original Song, Sound Editing, and Sound Mixing

Best Original Score
Will Win - Hildur Guðnadóttir "Joker"
Could Win - Thomas Newman "1917"
Should Win - Thomas Newman "1917"
Commentary - Winning both the Globe and the BAFTA puts Hildur Guðnadóttir in a good position to win this award. But I would not discount Thomas Newman. 1917 is hot right now, he is a legend with dozens of nominations and no wins, and he is the best of the bunch. He could, hopefully, surprise.

Best Original Song
Will Win - "(I'm Gonna) Love Me Again" from Rocketman
Could Win - "Stand Up" from Harriet or "I Can't Let You Throw Yourself Away" from Toy Story 4
Should Win - "(I'm Gonna) Love Me Again" from Rocketman
Commentary - I think that the idea of rewarding Bernie Taupin and Elton John together, like the Globes did, is something voters can not pass up. But this is also the place to reward two folks with multiple nominations (Randy Newman and Cynthia Erivo), especially since they will most likely not win the other awards they are nominated for. This one could be a surprise.

Best Sound Editing
Will Win - 1917
Could Win - Ford v Ferrari
Should Win - Ford v Ferrari

Best Sound Mixing
Will Win - 1917
Could Win - Ford v Ferrari
Should Win - Ford v Ferrari

Commentary - It is often safer to predict the same film for both awards. Ford v Ferrari won the CAS and the MPSE, then 1917 won the BAFTA. Both are nominated for Best Picture, but 1917 has the momentum. I think it wins both to many folks' surprise.
