2016 Grammy Predictions: Best New Artist and Song of the Year

Song of the Year
Will Win - Max Martin, Shellback, and  Taylor Swift "Blank Space"
Could Win - Ed Sheeran and Amy Wadge "Thinking Out Loud" or Kendrick Duckworth, Kawan Prather, Mark Anthony Spears & Pharrell Williams "Alright"
Should Win - Kendrick Duckworth, Kawan Prather, Mark Anthony Spears & Pharrell Williams "Alright"
Commentary - This is a tough one. Ed Sheeran has never won a Grammy, and voters clearly love this song. The best of the bunch is Kendrick Lamar, and I would not discount Girl Crush either. But I think Taylor Swift is going to get a general award this year. Record of the Year will be more difficult, and Album of the Year is a heated race. This feels like the right place to reward a song that is cleverly written.

Best New Artist
Will Win - James Bay
Could Win - Sam Hunt, Meghan Trainor, or Courtney Barnett
Should Win - Courtney Barnett or Tori Kelly
Commentary - I have no idea who is winning this award. Sam Hunt could follow in Zac Brown Band and Carrie Underwood's footsteps of country artists who have done well here. Tori Kelly and Meghan Trainor are pop hits, but a lot of the time they nominate the popular artist, and then they don't win. Courtney Barnett is the oddest and most different of the bunch (aka Esperanza Spalding). But James Bay did well in the rock categories (so did Sam Hunt, which is why he is my number 2), and I feel like of the bunch, he seems like the best guess.
