The Grammy Awards are next weekend, so until them I am going to post my predictions for who I think will take home the top prizes. Here is a look at the Rap categories.
Best Rap Album
Will Win: Eminem "Recovery"
Should Win: The Roots "How I Got Over"
Should Have Been Nominated: Big Boi "Sir Lucious"
Commentary: Big Boi's brilliant album was completely snubbed, and despite better albums this year, Eminem is set to sweep the Grammys, and this one should be no exception.
Best Rap Solo
Will Win: Eminem "Not Afraid"
Should Win: Kanye West "Power"
Commentary: West should win for his triumphant Power, but the overrated Not Afraid should give Eminem another Grammy for his shelf.
Best Rap Duo or Group
Will Win: Jay-Z & Swizz Beatz "On To the Next One"
Should Win: Big Boi & Cutty "Shutterbug"
Commentary: Perennial faves Jay-Z and Swizz Beatz should beat the competiton although they may use this category to honor newcomers Nicki Minaj and Drake.
Best Rap/Sung Collaboration
Will Win: Eminem & Rihanna "Love the Way You Lie"
Should Win: Jay-Z & Alicia Keys "Empire State of Mind"
Commentary: This category has three record of the year nominees, so it could go anyway. My guess is that Eminem and Rihanna take the prize.
Best Rap Song
Will Win: Love the Way You Lie
Should Win: Empire State of Mind
Commentary: Predicting the sweep.
