2019 Emmy Nomination Predictions: Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series

2019 Nomination Predictions
Alex Borstein "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel"
Aidy Bryant "Saturday Night Live"
Anna Chlumsky "Veep"
Olivia Coleman "Fleabag"
Betty Gilpin "GLOW"
Kate McKinnon "Saturday Night Live"

Other Contenders - Marin Hinkle "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel", Megan Mulally "Will & Grace", Leslie Jones "Saturday Night Live", Laurie Metcalf "The Conners", D'Arcy Carden "The Good Place", Rita Moreno "One Day at a Time", Sarah Goldberg "Barry", Mayim Bialik "The Big Bang Theory", Molly Shannon "The Other Two"

Commentary - This race was so tough last year that the category had multiple ties, leading to a whopping eight nominations. So I think Alex Borstein is a lock to return after winning last year, and could easily win again. I also think that even though she lost last year, that Kate McKinnon is still high on voters' lists after winning two years in a row. Anna Chlumsky missed last year's race due to Veep's ineligibility, but you can bet voters will make room for her one last time. I am hesitant about putting Betty Gilpin in again this year, but she was the only major acting nominee for the show, which is expected to get nominated for Comedy Series again. Clearly voters really like her. I believe that Olivia Coleman will benefit from her recent Oscar win, and the buzz for Season 3 of The Crown. Plus, Fleabag's buzz across the board is crazy high, so expect her to get swept up in the love of Season 2. Finally, this is Aidy Bryant has a great season on SNL, got nominated last year, and has a new show Shrill that was well-received. I think she surprises again. That leaves out legends like Megan Mullaly and Laurie Metcalf, who both got in last year. But the Emmy heat for both of those shows is a lot cooler this year, with the novelty of a returning classic wearing off (although for my money Will & Grace was great this season). That also leaves out Leslie Jones, who keeps defying the odds to get nominated. A lot of pundits and bloggers are also banking on Marin Hinkle (with eight nods, and so much popularity, how could she not get in last year?), and D'Arcy Carden (do enough voters know her well enough to nominate her? I wish, she was the best of the bunch this year). I also think Sarah Goldberg could breakout, Rita Moreno and Molly Shannon can never be discounted, and Mayim Bialik could benefit from a surge in support for The Big Bang Theory's final episode.
