Commentary - Well, my July Predictions have rolled over to August. Oh well, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. The only change I made was moving Robert DeNiro out, as it looks like The Irishman is moving to next year. In his place, I put previous nominee Lucas Hedges, whose new movie Boy Erased looks to be an early Oscar favorite. The other four, Gosling, Carell, Bale, and Jackman remain. Bradley Cooper cannot be ignored, but is that film really going to land? I have my doubts. Newcomers Stephen James and John David Washington could make a splash, Rami Malek is getting a lot of buzz, Chadwick Boseman is fantastic, and awards veterans like Joaquin Phoenix, Ethan Hawke, Robert Reford, Javier Bardem, and the late, great John Huston are all possibilities. Finally, look out for Ben Foster, Oscar Issac, and Rory Kinnear, all talented actors with big projects on the fall horizon.
