Academy Announces Ten Finalists for Best Visual Effects

The Academy has announced today the top ten contenders for this year's Best Visual Effects race. This year, it looks like all of the nominees are legitimate contenders, making picking a top five a tough job. There are some notable exclusions as always. I actually liked The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and even if i didn't, its effects make the film and are stunning. Kind of surprised to see it missing. Also, the two big Biblical epics Noah and Exodus: Gods and Kings were left off here, Noah being kind of surprising, as there has been a big campaign to get it some technical nods. Finally, no Into the Woods, even though it seemed like a prestige pick that could get some big  below the line recognition, also missed here. Apparently it didn't work with the Visual Effects Branch. Here are the final ten:

Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Godzilla
Guardians of the Galaxy
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
Interstellar
Maleficent
Night at the Museum: The Secret Tomb
Transformers: Age of Extinction
X-Men: Days of Future Past

Here are my predictions in light of this news:

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Guardians of the Galaxy
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
Interstellar
Transformers: Age of Extinction
