Commentary - Usually the winner is the previous year's Tony Award winner for Musical or Musical Revival. So naturally you would assume Hadestown is a shoo-in. But we also have the winner for Best Play, and its Harry Potter, and the new hit musical Moulin Rouge! which could win big at this year's Tonys. It may not be a slam dunk.
Best Comedy Album
Will Win - Dave Chappelle "Sticks and Stones"
Could Win - Ellen DeGeneres "Relatable"
Should Win - Chappelle or DeGeneres"
Commentary - I think that this is between Chappelle and DeGeneres. Chappelle has won this twice in a row, and when they like you at the Grammys, they do tend to continue to reward you. DeGeneres is an awards magnet, who has not been nominated in 7 years, and has never won this award. Plus she just got huge exposure at the Globes. She might be closing in on her first Grammy Award.
Best Spoken Word Album
Will Win - Michelle Obama "Becoming"
Could Win - Various Artists "Beastie Boys Book" or John Waters "Mr. Know it All"
Should Win - Michelle Obama "Becoming"
Commentary - I really can't see anyone other than Michelle Obama, former first lady, winning this award. The book is one of the bestselling books in recent memory, she is beloved, and is the biggest name on the ballot.
