2025 Emmy Nomination Predictions: Best Drama and Comedy Series

Best Drama Series
Andor
The Diplomat
The Last of Us
The Pitt
Severance
Slow Horses
Squid Game
The White Lotus

Other Contenders - Paradise, The Handmaid's Tale, The Day of the Jackal, House of the Dragon, Yellowjackets, Bad Sisters, Matlock, Bridgerton

Commentary - You know that The Pitt, Severance, and The White Lotus are in, and I would argue that the Emmy is between those three, with Severance leading the pack. Other than that, I feel like there i a lot of wiggle room. Andor and The Last of Us had strong second seasons, and made the cut before. Slow Horses made the cut in a really weak year last year, but it is a great show, and I think that Emmy voters will embrace it again. The Diplomat only had one nod in its first season, but it has picked up awards steam for its second. That leaves one slot. The Handmaid's Tale had a fantastic final season, and could return. The Day of the Jackal had a great showing in the winter awards, Yellowjackets and House of the Dragon got in before, Bridgerton did well with SAG voters, Paradise is intriguing and Matlock might be the only hope for broadcast television. I am going with Squid Game, as the kind of series that will do well below the line and it carries it into eight place. I am not certain with this pick, so we'll see how it goes tomorrow morning.

Best Comedy Series
Abbott Elementary
The Bear
Hacks
Nobody Wants This
Only Murders in the Building
Shrinking
The Studio
What We Do in the Shadows

Other Contenders - The Four Seasons, A Man on the Inside, Agatha All Along, The Residence, Colin from Accounts, Mo, Poker Face, Overcompensating, The Rehearsal, Mid-Century Modern, The Righteous Gemstones, English Teacher, Somebody Somewhere, Ghosts

Commentary - Unlike Drama Series, I feel pretty confident about these eight. Five of them are repeat offenders, and I see no reason why voters would reject them at this point (Abbott, Bear, Hacks, Only Murders, and WWDINTS). Shrinking should build on its previous nominees, and expand its ballot presence. Finally, I think two newcomers are really strong, Nobody Wants This, and particularly The Studio, which could win the whole thing. Outside of those eight, I don't know who replaces them. The Four Seasons was kind of a dud, but it has a lot of pedigree. A Man on the Inside is a spoiler, but its slight. Agatha All Along could surprise, and don't discount a plethora of other contenders (See the list above).
