2018 Emmy Predictions: Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series

Will Win - Henry Winkler "Barry"

Should Win - Winkler or Tituss Burgess "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt"

Could Win - Burgess, Tony Shalhoub "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel", Brian Tyree Henry "Atlanta", or Alec Baldwin "Saturday Night Live"

Commentary - So this really is a five-way race. I think Louie Anderson should be thrilled with his nomination. He has already won for this category and buzz for Baskets has faded. You can also add Kenan Thompson to the list of guys who should feel lucky to be in the race. Alec Baldwin won this category last year, and the anti-Trump Hollywood voters might love to give him another opportunity on stage. But I think buzz has faded on his performance, and he was much less prevalent this season. Brian Tyree Henry could get swept up in the Atlanta wave. Tituss Burgess is really the only reason voters still like Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt as he is the only other nod for the series besides Comedy Series. Tony Shalhoub is a big threat. He is a previous Emmy favorite, and just won a Tony for The Band's Visit. He, like Henry, is in a huge contender for Comedy Series, which also helps. But I think that this category is going to Henry Winkler. He is a television legend in a show that they really like. This could easily serve two purposes for Emmy voters. It is a way to honor Barry, a show they clearly love, and it gives them a chance to give a way overdue Emmy to Winkler. Word is getting out that he has never won an Emmy, and apparently he is campaigning all over town. I think Emmy voters are not going to pass up a chance for an incredible Emmy moment.
