The Oscar Narrative: Final Oscar Predictions - Best Original Score and Best Original Song

Best Original Score
Will Win - Alexandre Desplat "The Shape of Water"
Could Win - Hans Zimmer "Dunkirk"
Should Win - Hans Zimmer "Dunkirk"
Commentary - I still cannot, for the life of me, figure out how Hans Zimmer is not sweeping these awards for his Dunkirk score, but Desplat has not lost a major award yet. I don't expect an upset at the finish line.

Best Original Song
Will Win - Coco - Remember Me
Could Win - The Greatest Showman - This is Me, Mudbound - Mighty River
Should Win - Call Me By Your Name - The Mystery of Love
Commentary - This is always a tough race to predict without a clear front runner. This is Me is a huge showstopper with a Globe win, and last year's winners at the helm. But are voters really going for this film, compared to the other four nominees whose films are much more popular across the board? Mighty River would be an awesome way to honor Mary J. Blige and Mudbound. But animated films do well here, and the songwriting duo are Oscar winners already. Its a close one, but I think Remember Me will take the gold.
