Karla Sofía Gascón "Emilia Perez"
Nicole Kidman "Babygirl"
Angelina Jolie "Maria"
Mikey Madison "Anora"
Tilda Swinton "The Room Next Door"

Other Contenders - Saoirse Ronan "The Outrun", Amy Adams "Nightbitch", Fernanda Torres "I'm Still Here", Demi Moore "The Substance", Cynthia Erivo "Wicked", Marianne Jean-Baptiste "Hard Truths", Julianne Moore "The Room Next Door", Ryan Destiny "The Fire Inside", June Squibb "Thelma", Zendaya "Challengers", Jodie Comer "The Bikeriders", Florence Pugh "We Live in Time", Robin Wright "Here", Lily Gladstone "Fancy Dance", Kate Winslet "Lee", Emma Stone "Kinds of Kindness", Kani Kusruti "All We Imagine As Light", Regina King "Shirley", Anya Taylor-Joy "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga"

Commentary - A fascinating race between old and new, shapes up to be one of the most interesting races of the season. Previous winners like Nicole Kidman, Tilda Swinton, an Angelina Jolie have fascinating roles in buzzed films out of the fall festival, all breathing new lives into astonishing careers. Mikey Madison is the big ingenue contender this year with a breakthrough role in Anora. Finally, Emilia Perez continues to gain traction (I was skeptical, but I am giving in), and Karla Sofia Gascon is the wildcard entry that could breakthrough in this category. Beyond those five, previous nominees and winners like Saoirse Ronan, Amy Adams, Cynthia Erivo, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Julianne Moore, June Squibb, Kate Winslet, Emma Stone, Florence Pugh, Lily Gladstone, Robin Wright, and Regina King are all potent contenders. Mix that with newcomers and potential first timers like Anya Taylor-Joy, Kani Kusruti, Ryan Destiny, Jodie Comer, and Zendaya, and you have a potent list of contenders.

The Oscar Narrative: Post 2025 Venice/Telluride/Toronto Nomination Predictions
Kieran Culkin "A Real Pain"
Edward Norton "A Complete Unknown"
Guy Pearce "The Brutalist"
Stanley Tucci "Conclave"
Denzel Washington "Gladiator II"

Other Contenders - Clarence Maclin "Sing Sing", John Turturro "The Room Next Door", Samuel L. Jackson "The Piano Lesson", John Magaro "September 5", Peters Saarsgard "September 5", Drew Starkey "Queer", John Lithgow "Conclave", Yury Borisov "Anora", Austin Butler "Dune Part II", Lamore Morris "Saturday Night", Harris Dickinson "Blitz", Jonathan Bailey "Wicked", Selton Mello "I'm Still Here", Brian Tyree Henry "The Fire Inside", Josh O'Connor "Challengers", Mike Faist "Challengers", Mark Eydelshteyn "Anora", Tommy Dewey "Saturday Night", Pedro Pascal "Gladiator II", Tom Hardy "The Bikeriders", Richard Roundtree "Thelma", Cooper Hoffman "Saturday Night", Nicholas Braun "Saturday Night"

Commentary - Guy Pearce has emerged as a huge contender here for The Brutalist, which skyrocketed to the top of the Oscar heap after the fall festivals. But almost every pundit still has Denzel Washington for Gladiator II at the top of the list. Is it because word on the street is he is great? Or is it just, don't bet against Denzel? Either way, I am joining the majority. Conclave is going to be a big hit with voters, and Stanley Tucci looks like the Supporting contender to watch for. Edward Norton is getting a bunch of buzz for A Complete Unknown and Kieran Culkin is an early favorite for A Real Pain. Beyond those five, watch for Clarence Maclin in a buzzed performance, John Turturro tackling Almodovar, Samuel L. Jackson, and the many guys from Saturday Night, led by recent Emmy winner Lamore Morris. September 5 offers Magaro and Saarsgard, Drew Starkey could emerge, as could Yury Borisov and Harris Dickinson. Also watch out for previous nominees and winner like Brian Tyree Henry, Austin Butler, John Lithgow, and Tomy Hardy. Throw in potential first timers Jonathan Bailey, Josh O'Connor, Mike Faist, Mark Eydelshteyn, Pedro Pascal, and the late, great Richard Roundtree, and you have a race!

The Oscar Narrative: Post 2025 Venice/Telluride/Toronto Nomination Predictions - Best Supporting Actress

Post 2025 Venice/Telluride/Toronto Nomination Predictions
Danielle Deadwyler "The Piano Lesson"
Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor "The Nickel Boys"
Felicity Jones "The Brutalist"
Saoirse Ronan "Blitz"
Zoe Saldana "Emilia Perez"

Other Contenders - Selena Gomez "Emilia Perez", Carrie Coon "This Three Daughters", Monica Barbaro "A Complete Unknown", Isabella Rossellini "Conclave", Ariana Grande "Wicked", Leonie Benesch "September 5", Toni Collette "Juror #5", Joan Chen "Didi", Michele Austin "Hard Truths", Elle Fanning "A Complete Unknown", Rachel Sennott "Saturday Night", Elizabeth Olsen "His Three Daughters", Natasha Lyonne "His Three Daughters", Adriana Paz "Emilia Perez", Connie Nielson "Gladiator II", Fernanda Montenegro "I'm Still Here", Lesley Manville "Queer"

Commentary - A fantastic race between some heavy hitters. Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Saoirse Ronan, and Felicity Jones are hoping to return to the race, and finally win their first Oscars. Zoe Saldana, one of the most prolific actors, might finally get some recognition for her buzzed performance in Emilia Perez. Finally, after missing for Till a few years ago, Danielle Deadwyler might get her revenge for The Piano Lesson. Beyond those five look for previous nominees like Isabella Rossellini, Toni Collette, Fernanda Montenegro, and Lesley Manville. But his race may end up being the race of the first timers. Selena Gomez, Carrie Coon, Monica Barbaro, Ariana Grande, Elle Fanning, Rachel Sennott, Elizabeth Olsen, Connie Nielson, Natasha Lyonne, Adriana Paz, Leonie Benesch, and Joan Chen are all gunning for their first nod.

The Oscar Narrative: Post 2025 Venice/Telluride/Toronto Nomination Predictions - Best Adapted and Original Screenplay

Best Adapted Screenplay
Peter Straughn "Conclave"
Jacques Audiard "Emilia Perez"
RaMell Ross and Joslyn Barnes "The Nickel Boys"
Virgil Williams and Malcolm Washington "The Piano Lesson"
Pedro Almodovar "The Room Next Door"

Other Contenders - Jay Cocks and James Mangold "A Complete Unknown", Justin Kuritzkes "Queer", Meg LeFauve, Dave Holstein, and Kelsey Mann "Inside Out 2", Denis Villeneuve and Jon Spaihts "Dune Part II", David Scarpa and Peter Craig "Gladiator II", Murilo Hauser and Heitor Lorega "I'm Still Here", Chris Sanders "The Wild Robot", Richard Linklater and Glen Powell "Hit Man", Robert Eggers "Nosferatu", Eric Roth and Robert Zemeckis "Here", Zach Baylin "The Order", Barry Jenkins "The Fire Inside"

Commentary - Conclave, The Nickel Boys, Emilia Perez, The Piano Lesson , and The Room Next Door all came sprinting out of the fall festivals with a lot of buzz and awards potential. Beyond those five, Queer also did well out of the circuit, Hit Man was a fun spring hit, and we are waiting to see if Nosferatu, as well as projects from previous nominees Baylin, Jenkins, and Roth/Zemeckis are potent. Also look out for The Wild Robot, and the big sequels, Gladiator II, Inside Out 2, and Dune Part II.

Best Original Screenplay
Sean Baker "Anora"
Steve McQueen "Blitz"
Brady Corbet and Mona Fastvold "The Brutalist"
Mike Leigh "Hard Truths"
Gil Kenan and Jason Reitman "Saturday Night"

Other Contenders - Moritz Binder and Tim Fehlbaum "September 5", Jesse Eisenberg "A Real Pain", Mohammad Rasoulof "The Seed of the Sacred Fig, Azazel Jacobs "His Three Daughters", Payal Kapadia "All We Imagine as Light", Steven Knight "Maria",  Yorgos Lanthimos and Efthimis Filippou "Kinds of Kindness",  Justin Kuritzkes "Challengers", Josh Margolin "Thelma"

Commentary - Anora continues its buzz and The Brutalist is the surprise hit of the season. Mike Leigh's Hard Truths needs more buzz, but he is always a surprise favorite with Oscar voters. Blitz may not be as unique as previous McQueen works, but it is a well-received historical drama from an Oscar winner. Finally, despite mixed reviews, I think Saturday Night could be the crowd-pleasing favorite that voters respond to this season. September 5 is a real contender to watch, The Seed of the Sacred Fig has buzz, and His Three Daughters, Maria, and All We Imagine is Light are dark horse contenders. Also watch out for early contenders Thelma, Kinds of Kindness, and Challengers.

14th Annual Awards Psychic Television Award Winners

Best Drama Series
Winner - Shogun
Runners Up - The Curse, Heartstopper, Slow Horses
Commentary - The Curse was clever, Heartstopper is still adorable, and Slow Horses continues to get better. But no Drama Series quite matched the drama, the spectacle, and the quality of FX's Shogun. A remake from the 1980s, they had a lot to live up to, but they knocked it out the park with high quality technical aspects, beautiful scripts, and a fantastic cast. Can't wait till Season 2.

Best Comedy Series
Winner - Hacks
Runners Up - Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Reservation Dogs
Commentary - I had such high hopes for Season 3 of Hacks, and it exceeded every single one of them. The cast was on point, the central struggle of Ava and Deborah continued to find new layers, and it continued to be one of the funniest, most heartfelt, and surprising television comedies. Then they went and announced a Season 4! It is going to be so great to see where this show goes wit ha great cliffhanger leaving us only wanting more.

Best Actor in a Drama Series
Winner - (TIE) Kit Connor "Heartstopper" and Joe Locke "Heartstopper"
Runners Up - Nathan Fielder "The Curse", Gary Oldman "Slow Horses", Hiroyuki Sanada "Shogun"
Commentary - Heartstopper's Season 2 proved that the first outing was not a fluke. At the center of this heartfelt drama is the Emmy-recognized pair of Kit Connor and Joe Locke. Their chemistry, their skill, and their heartfelt performances make Heartstopper sing.

Best Actress in a Drama Series
Winner - Anna Sawai "Shogun"
Runners Up - Jennifer Aniston "The Morning Show", Maya Erskine "Mr. and Mrs. Smith", Emma Stone "The Curse"
Commentary - Anna Sawai is subtly brilliant in Shogun, especially when her restraint is broken. She is quietly powerful, ever present, and has a ferocity of spirit that shines every time she appears on screen.

Best Actor in a Comedy Series
Winner - D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai "Reservation Dogs"
Runners Up - Matt Berry "What We Do in the Shadows", Kayvan Novak "What We Do in the
Commentary - My favorite nomination of 2024 is D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai. The center of this fantastic dramedy series is finally getting his laurels for his fierce, enigmatic, and commanding performance in Reservation Dogs. This show, and this performance, will be dearly missed.

Best Actress in a Comedy Series
Winner - Ayo Edibiri "The Bear"
Runners Up - Quinta Brunson "Abbott Elementary", Renee Elise Goldsberry "Girls5Eva", Devery Jacobs "Reservation Dogs", Jean Smart "Hacks"
Commentary - Ayo Edibiri's talent is just so fantastic, and in the well-received second season of The Bear, her jump to the lead up against Jeremy Allen White, showcased just how awkward, funny, and yet capable of drama depths she is as an actress. She is a worthy winner.

Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series
Winner - Tadanobu Asano "Shogun"
Runners Up - Billy Crudup "The Morning Show", Takehiro Hira "Shogun", Jack Lowden "Slow Horses"
Commentary - Asano is the perfect supporting character, whose fealty to those in power provides for dramatic heft, and often some welcomed comedic relief. He is a clear standout in a magnificent cast.

Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series
Winner - Elizabeth Debicki "The Crown"
Runners Up - Fumi Nikaido "Shogun", Greta Lee "The Morning Show", Karen Pittman "The Morning Show"
Commentary - The Crown's last two season lacked a bit of the punch that the first four had, but no one can deny that Elizabeth Debicki's portrayl of Princess Diana was jaw-droppingly good.

Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series
Winner - (TIE) Paul W. Downs "Hacks" and Harvey Guillen "What We Do in the Shadows"
Runners Up - William Stanford Davis "Abbott Elementary", Ebon Moss-Bachrach "The Bear", Tyler James Williams "Abbott Elementary"
Commentary - Paul W. Downs had such a good season, balancing humor and heart. But with every subsequent season of What We Do in the Shadows, Harvey Guillen just radiates with humor and awkwardness. I couldn't decided between the two, so I rewarded both.

Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series
Winner - Hannah Einbinder "Hacks"
Runners Up - Liza Colon-Zayas "The Bear", Janelle James "Abbott Elementary", Sheryl Lee Ralph "Abbott Elementary"
Commentary - Hannah Einbinder really is a co-lead, as she is one who really stands up and stands out against the great Jean Smart. Her humor, her emotion, her irreverence, and her pitch perfect chemistry with her co-stars really showed out in Season 3, and by the end, we can't to see not only happens with Deborah, but Ava's story is almost as compelling.

Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series
Winner - Nester Carbonell "Shogun"
Runners Up - John Turturro "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" and Jonathan Pryce "Slow Horses"
Commentary - Nester Carbonell has had an excellent career as a character actor, and his role in Shogun was fantastic. I am so happy to see him get some recognition with his Emmy win, and I hope we see more of his talent.

Best Guest Actress in a Drama Series
Winner - Michela Coel "Mr. and Mrs. Smith"
Runners Up - Sarah Paulson "Mr. and Mrs. Smith", Parkey Posey "Mr. and Mrs. Smith"
Commentary - Coel's character had an incredible bad-ass arch over the course of her guest performance, and I hope that they bring her back in the next season, because she only left us wanting more from her character.

Best Guest Actor in a Comedy Series
Winner - Ryan Gosling "Saturday Night Live"
Runners Up - Jon Bernthal "The Bear", Christopher Lloyd "Hacks", Bob Odenkirk "The Bear", Will Poulter "The Bear"
Commentary - I loved so many of these nominees, but Ryan Gosling on SNL was just pitch-perfect funny, and a reminder of how good he is in these comedic roles.

Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series
Winner - Jamie Lee Curtis "The Bear"
Runners Up - Olivia Colman "The Bear", Kaitlin Olson "Hacks", Maya Rudolph "Saturday Night Live", Kristin Wiig "Saturday Night Live"

Best Limited Series
Winner - (TIE) Baby Reindeer and True Detective: Night Country
Runners Up - Fellow Travelers, The Sympathizer,
Commentary - After a couple of down years, the Limited Series category really bounced back in 2023-2024. My favorite two (and I couldn't pick just one) were Baby Reindeer and Night Country. Baby Reindeer is a traumatic piece of storytelling that is funny and sad, compelling yet frightening, and is impeccably acted. Night Country is the best True Detective since the original, boosted by a new take with Issa Lopez, and a set of excellent performances led by Jodie Foster and Kali Reis. Both are fantastic, and elevate the form.

Best TV Movie

Commentary - My favorite of the year was Red, White, and Royal Blue. I loved the book, and was hopefully the filmmakers would capture is charm and humor. Sure it was cheesy, predictable, etc. It is a romantic comedy. But it is bursting with so much heart, love, and joy that you can't help but be swept up in this beautiful and needed story.

Winner - Issa López "True Detective: Night Country"
Runners Up - Weronika Tofilska "Baby Reindeer - Episode 4", Lulu Wang "Expats", Matthew López "Red, White & Royal Blue"

Best Animated Program
Winner - X-Men '97
Runners Up - Archer, Bob's Burgers, Star Wars: The Bad Batch
Commentary - I remember when I was sick as a kid, my mom or dad would take me to Shows to Go (this was before we got our Blockbuster), and I would rent VHS tapes of the original X-Men animated series. I loved that show, and wore out those tapes. To return to that world in Disney +'s X'Men '97 was going to be great no matter what, but the fact that it also perfectly captured the original series' brilliance and magic was nostalgic icing on the cake.
