2020 Emmy Predictions: Best Directing and Writing in a Comedy Series

Best Directing in a Comedy Series
Will Win - Andrew Cividino and Daniel Levy "Schitt's Creek - Happy Ending"
Could Win - Amy Sherman-Palladino "He Marvelous Mrs. Maisel - It's Comedy or Cabbage" or Ramy Youssef "Miakhalifa.mov"
Should Win - Andrew Cividino and Daniel Levy "Schitt's Creek - Happy Ending"
Commentary - Maisel could win, although it did lost last year. Of the two episodes, I think Amy's is the one that could pull it off. In a normal year, someone like a Ramy Youssef could easily pull off an upset. This branch and their writing counterparts love these shows where the star also writes, produces and directs. But when the show missed out on a Comedy Series nomination or a writing nod (which I thought was a slam dunk) it made me pause on his chances. In the end,  I think that the absolutely stunning series finale of Schitt's Creek will win, and I will be disappointed if it doesn't.

Best Writing in a Comedy Series
Will Win - Daniel Levy "Schitt's Creek - Happy Ending"
Could Win - Michael Schur "The Good Place - Whenever You're Ready"
Should Win - Daniel Levy "Schitt's Creek - Happy Ending"
Commentary - Schitt's Creek should win this one as well, but it does have internal competition. If anyone can overtake the show because of a split vote, I think it is the finale of The Good Place. The show did really well this year, and does deserve some love. In all of the Schitt's Creek madness, I think a lot of folks have forgotten just how good The Good Place was. Plus, in terms of writing, it is the most unique comedy series in decades, all thanks to the mind of Michael Schur and his team.
