Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Television Movie
Will Win - Jeff Daniels "Godless"
Could Win - Brandon Victor Dixon "Jesus Christ Superstar Live" or Edgar Ramirez "The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story"
Should Win - Daniels
Commentary - Jeff Daniels has a towering performance in Godless, which is going to walk away with at least one big Emmy. He is an Emmy winner, beloved veteran in the industry, and I would honestly be kind of surprised if he didn't win for this role. The Jesus Christ Superstar Live love in the acting categories was shocking on Emmy morning, so I could see Brandon Victor Dixon upsetting. We also should not ignore the popularity of Gianni Versace, with Edgar Ramirez the most likely of the three. But I think those three will split votes and help propel either Dixon, or most likely Daniels to an Emmy win.
Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Television Movie
Will Win - Judith Light "The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story"
Could Win - Penelope Cruz "The Assassination of Gianni Versace: America Crime Story" or Merritt Wever "Godless"
Should Win - Cruz or Light
Commentary - This is becoming a tight three-way race. The two Versace contenders are both beloved veterans. Four-time Emmy nominee Light is a huge television veteran, and Penelope Cruz is the Oscar-winning movie star. These types of battles tend to favor either veterans or movie stars, which helps us not one bit. I am leaning towards Light, but both are big performances and it could go either way. Or, a vote split could occur, and Emmy winner Merritt Wever could sneak in for Godless, which is definitely on the rise in terms of overall Emmy buzz. Plus Wever has upset at the Emmys before, and I will not discount her again.
