Best Directing in a Limited Series or Television Movie
Will Win - Ryan Murphy "The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story"
Could Win - David Lynch "Twin Peaks", Scott Frank "Godless" or David Leveaux and Alex Rudzinski "Jesus Christ Superstar Live"
Should Win - David Lynch "Twin Peaks"
Commentary - This is an interesting four-way race that could go a number of ways. Godless is one that I think is rising in upset potential, David Lynch will be popular among the directing branch, and Jesus Christ Superstar could win based on difficulty alone. The whole reason SNL consistently wins in variety directing. But The Assassination of Gianni Versace is the most popular of the bunch, Ryan Murphy has won directing awards before, and is well-liked among the branch. I think he wins in a close race.
Best Writing in a Limited Series or Television Movie
Will Win - William Bridges and Charlie Brooker "U.S.S Callister: Black Mirror"
Could Win - Tom Rob Smith "The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story" and Scott Frank "Godless"
Should Win - William Bridges and Charlie Brooker "U.S.S Callister: Black Mirror" or Kevin and Matthew McManus "American Vandal"
Commentary - I would love to see American Vandal get some Emmy love, but I am thrilled to think that Black Mirror might win instead. It is definitely the best written and most clever of the bunch (along with American Vandal), and I think it can beat out the more popular series Godless and The Assassination of Gianni Versace.
