Best R&B Album
Will Win - H.E.R. "H.E.R."
Could Win - Leon Bridges "Good Thing" or Toni Braxton "Sex and Cigarettes"
Should Win - H.E.R. "H.E.R."
Commentary - Bridges' work is solid, and you should never discount the legend Toni Braxton. But after getting Album of the Year and Best New Artist nominations, I think H.E.R. has this one wrapped up. Plus, it was a heck of debut, and widely popular.
Best Urban Contemporary Album
Will Win - The Carters "Everything is Love"
Could Win - Miguel "War and Leisure" or Chloe X Halle "The Kids Are All Right"
Should Win - The Carters "Everything is Love"
Commentary - I could see Chloe x Halle making a splash here, but it is never smart to bet against the king and queen. Plus, Everything is Love is easily the best of the bunch and should have gotten more love in the general categories. I think voters will give it some recognition here.
Best R&B Performance
Will Win - The Carters "Summer"
Could Win - H.E.R. feat Daniel Caesar "Best Part"
Should Win - The Carters "Summer" or H.E.R. feat Daniel Caesar "Best Part"
Commentary - An interesting race. Will the general field nods pull H.E.R. to a second Grammy, or will the power of Beyonce and Jay-Z be too much. I think The Carters pull one here, but it will be interesting to see how this one unfolds.
Best R&B Song
Will Win - Ella Mai "Boo'd Up"
Could Win - H.E.R. "Focus" or Childish Gambino "Feels Like Summer"
Should Win - H.E.R. "Focus"
Commentary - Childish Gambino or H.E.R. could feel residual love, but Ella Mai's hit is also up for Song of the Year.
