2018 Nomination Predictions
Hayley Atwell "Howard's End"
Jessica Biel "The Sinner"
Laura Dern "The Tale"
Michelle Dockery "Godless"
Elisabeth Moss "Top of the Lake: China Girl"
Sarah Paulson "American Horror Story: Cult"
Other Contenders - Edie Falco "The Menendez Murders", Cristin Milioti "Black Mirror: U.S.S. Callister", Regina King "Seven Seconds", Anna Deveare Smith "Notes from the Field", Riley Keogh "Paterno", Catherine Zeta-Jones "Cocaine Godmother", Carey Mulligan "Collateral", Kelly MacDonald "The Child in Time", Alana Boden "I Am Elizabeth Smart"
Commentary - The consensus has coalesced around six contenders. Laura Dern is most likely going to win another Emmy for The Tale. Jessica Biel and Hayley Atwell, both of whom have been on television for awhile now, will most likely earn their first, well-deserved, Emmy nominations. Michelle Dockery had a great role in Godless, and proved her popularity during her Downton Abbey days. I expect her to return to the Emmy race. Top of the Lake: China Girl may not do as well with Emmy voters as its predecessor, but Elisabeth Moss is television's hottest ticket. Expect a double nomination year for her. Finally, despite the fact that American Horror Story has continually dipped in quality, and in Emmy recognition, I expect the ever-popular Emmy-winning Sarah Paulson to once again return to this race. But Paulson is the most likely to be replaced, as AHS continues to see its nomination talley drop. Previous winners Edie Falco and Regina King could return, although neither of their projects were well-received by critics. Cristin Milioti could get in if Black Mirror grows its Emmy talley after last year's TV Movie win. Anna Deveare Smith should be in this race, Riley Keogh's star is on the rise, and Carey Mulligan and Kelly MacDonald could represent the Brits.
