Commentary - This year's race is stacked with Oscar and Emmy winners and nominees, and it makes me concerned which six will make the cut, with so many popular names on the ballot. I think that the power of The Assassination of Gianni Versace in a relatively weak long-form year will carry over to Emmy favorite Judith Light, and the probable winner, Oscar-winner Penelope Cruz. Angela Lansbury may continue to be a bridesmaid, but I think yet another nomination is on its way, despite mixed reactions to Little Women. Top of the Lake: China Girl doesn't look to have the same Emmy impact as its predecessor, but Nicole Kidman just won an Emmy last year, and is sure to inspire a lot of votes. Laura Dern is another Emmy favorite, who I think will end up with two nominations, and at least one win for her work. Twin Peaks was an Emmy favorite back in the day, and I expect it to do well with its return season. The last slot is the one I am a bit cautious on. I think Merritt Wever, Julia Ormond, and Jennifer Jason Leigh all make interesting cases. But I think that the beloved Ellen Burstyn, who has literally been nominated for seconds on-screen, will continue her reign as Emmy queen.
