British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Film Nominations

I have put a lot of stake in BAFTA in recent years, knowing that some of their British nominees don't cross over (I don't expect I, Daniel Blake to be a big Oscar contender). That being said, we learned a lot today. Moonlight does hit with every audience, neither does Fences, but their PGA nods later proved there is still a lot of support stateside. For the record despite 6 nominations and 2 wins at the Oscars, Denzel has never gotten a BAFTA nomination. Once again, there are some quirks. But if you are Arrival or Nocturnal Animals, both flirting with Oscar glory, this was a good day for you. In the Best Actress race, BAFTA matched with SAG 5/5. So that Emily Blunt nomination is not looking like an outlier, and despite a Globe win earlier, this is not good news for Isabelle Huppert. Also Aaron Taylor-Johnson backed up his Globe win with a nod here. Unfortunately that means that most likely Lucas Hedges will miss the cut. Finally, La La Land is blowing past its SAG miss and racking up a ton of nominations and wins.
