The Critics Choice Awards will be announced live tomorrow night at 9 on Vh1 I believe. So tune in!
Best Picture – The Social Network
Runners Up – The King’s Speech, Black Swan, The Fighter
Commentary - The BFCA tends to try to fit in with what is the perceived frontrunner/future winner at the Oscars, and although The King’s Speech could take the prize, my guess is that TSN continues its streak of critical success.
Best Director – David Fincher “The Social Network”
Runners Up – Christopher Nolan “Inception”, Darren Aronofsky “Black Swan”
Commentary – I feel that no matter what happens with Best Picture that Fincher is going to win this award all the way down the line.
Best Actor – Colin Firth “The King’s Speech”
Runners Up – James Franco “127 Hours”, Jesse Eisenberg “The Social Network”
Commentary – While the young guns, Franco and Eisenberg, have gotten a lot of attention, this is Firth’s year.
Best Actress – Natalie Portman “Black Swan”
Runners Up – Annette Bening “The Kids Are All Right”, Jennifer Lawrence “Winter’s Bone”
Commentary: While I still think that Bening may pull off the SAG, and eventually the Oscar, I feel that Portman is going to win here with the Critics. Although don’t put it past them to have a tie like last year, as they are notorious for not making up their minds in close races.
Best Supporting Actor – Christian Bale “The Fighter”
Runners Up – Geoffrey Rush “The King’s Speech”
Commentary: The only person outside of Bale I could see winning is Rush, but I think that even that is a small chance, as Bale has been the only dominant in the acting categories.
Best Supporting Actress – Melissa Leo “The Fighter”
Runners Up – Hailee Steinfeld “True Grit”, Amy Adams “The Fighter”, Helena Bonham Carter “The King’s Speech”
Commentary: This is a tough one, as the top four contenders all seem to be legitimate threats for the prize. I’m going with Leo because she has had the most attention, with Steinfeld being next in line. However, don’t discount Adams or Carter, or hell even Weaver, in this unpredictable race.
Best Acting Ensemble – The Fighter
Runners Up – The King’s Speech, The Social Network
Commentary: I think they will think outside the box and go with a movie who derives its strength from its cast like The Fighter.
Best Original Screenplay – David Seidler “The King’s Speech”
Runners Up – Black Swan, The Fighter, Inception
Commentary: I’m sure a lot of people are going to go with the more hip choices of The Fighter or Black Swan, but I think that The King’s Speech will surprise and overcome WGA eligibility to become the frontrunner again for Original Screenplay.
Best Adapted Screenplay – Aaron Sorkin “The Social Network”
Commentary: Duh
The other categories, I’m simply going to give a prediction, as I have no clue which way they are going to go, or they are pretty obvious.
