Commentary - So Cherry Jones and Cicely Tyson were nominated last year, and are both Emmy-winning favorites. I think they are in again. Phylicia Rashad has a great role in This is Us, and even though American Horror Story is no longer the Emmy favorite it once was, the acting branch still loves this show, and I would be surprised if it passed up an opportunity to put Connie Britton and Jessica Lange back in the Emmy race. Finally, Carice van Houten was a pivotal part of beating the Night King, especially her scene with Arya that foreshadows the rest of the episode (and it turns out a lot of the series). While she didn't have a lot of screen time, I think her impact was enough to inspire voters. Beyond those six, Michelle Forbes had a powerful episode on Grey's Anatomy, Malin Akerman was great in Billions (but that show has never caught on with Emmy voters), Laverne Cox has gotten in before, and The Good Fight is hoping to reclaim the dominance its predecessor once had in this category.
