Commentary - This category is so hard to figure out, because it really depends on just how many SNL guys they are willing to nominate. I feel dumb leaving out Aziz Ansari, but I feel like he will get a lot of love elsewhere. I am also leaving out previous nominees Jon Hamm, Jimmy Fallon, Steve Buscemi, and Fred Willard, who have gotten nominations for these same roles in the past. Matthew Rhys and Hugh Laurie also seem like great picks here, as do breakthrough stars Riz Ahmed and Daveed Diggs. Josh Charles and Ray Liotta are hilarious and have substantial material on Kimmy Schmidt., and Danny Glover, Kelsey Grammer and Judd Hirsch are legends. But I think six other guys are getting instead, I wanted to lead off with the other guys just to show you how damn competitive this race is. Peter MacNicol was robbed last year from Veep, but I think voters will respond, same with Peter Scolari, who managed to win after being seventh place. It gives him a bigger profile to get in the mix the first time around this time. I do think SNL will have a big haul. Dave Chapelle was the best male host of the season, Tom Hanks is beloved, and Lin Manuel-Miranda probably has enough Hamilton and Moana love left to score a nod. Finally, Bradley Whitford is a perennial favorite and has won this category recently for Transparent, and has a drunken-fueled reunion with his West Wing co-star Allison Janney. That has Emmy written all over it.
