RIP Jonathan Demme
A sad loss today for the film world, as it was announced that Jonathan Demme died today at the age of 73 from a battle with cancer. Demme was an Academy Award winning director whose work included The Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia, Melvin and Howard, Something Wild, Beloved, Neil Young Journeys, Rachel Getting Married, Neil Young: Heart of Gold, and more recently, the Meryl Streep-starring Ricki and the Flash. He had a love of music, and he would direct nonfiction, fiction, television and everything in between. He was an idiosyncratic director whose film contributions will be remembered forever. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends this evening.
